Pennsylvania Unemployment Insurance
Pennsylvania unemployment insurance is temporary compensation for
workers that become unemployed through no fault of their own. There are
certain requirements that need to be met in order to be eligible for
benefits. You must have been employed during an established period of
time, file ongoing claims and answer questions. It is also important
that you report earnings from work, and job offers or refusal of work
during any claim period. You have to accept work when it’s available.
Qualified individuals for Pennsylvania unemployment insurance may
receive up to 20 weeks of emergency unemployment compensation which is
called Tier 1. The date of the Sunday in which you applied for benefits
is called the Application for benefits date which determines your base
year and benefit year. If you use your 16 weeks of PA unemployment
compensation, you may be eligible for the 20.8 weeks of unemployment
compensation program. If you’re presently receiving EUC benefits, you
may now claim 20.8 weeks instead of 12.8 but only if you’re eligible.
You may also claim and additional eight weeks of EUC if you used your 16
weeks of PA UC benefits and 12.8 weeks of EUC.

You can file for Pennsylvania unemployment insurance benefits online, 24
hours a day. You can also apply over the phone through a UC service
center. You’ll need certain information at the time you apply for
unemployment. This includes your Social Security number, Pennsylvania
driver’s license if you have one, Alien Registration number if you are
not a United States citizen, name, and address of all employers and
employee information form if you have one. You’ll also need your
mailing address, reasons you left your job and your personal
identification number if you had a claim before. If you are eligible
for unemployment, you will receive payments through direct deposit or
debit card. |
