Pennsylvania Unemployment Claim

If you live in Pennsylvania and have recently been laid off from your job, you can file a Pennsylvania unemployment claim.  To file a Pennsylvania unemployment claim, you must first fill out the initial claims application on the Pennsylvania Unemployment Office website. Access the form by going to their website and click on the “Initial Claim” link.  If you do not have Internet access, you can call the Unemployment Claim Service Center’s statewide toll free line, 1-888-313-7284, to make a request to file your initial unemployment claim.

Before your claim will be completed, you will be asked to give your social security number, your Pennsylvania Dept. of Transportation photo ID, the name and address of your last employer, and your last pay stub.  If you are not a citizen of the United States, your alien registration number is required also.

Workers who are still employed may be eligible to file a Pennsylvania unemployment claim for partial benefits if they have had their work hours reduced.  If a person gains employment after losing one job, but is making less than their prior wages, they may also be eligible to file a Pennsylvania unemployment claim for partial benefits.

To be eligible for unemployment benefits in Pennsylvania, the worker has to have been laid off for reasons other than it being their own fault.  The worker must file the initial unemployment claim form.  The worker must have worked at a job to receive enough wages to qualify for 16 weeks of credit.  Also, to qualify to receive weekly benefits from your Pennsylvania unemployment claim, you must be available to accept work at any given time.  You will lose your benefits for any time that you are not available for work, or if you refuse to work when it is offered to you.

If an unemployed worker has earned wages from another state and has worked in Pennsylvania, a “combined” wage claim can be filed with the Pennsylvania Unemployment Office.  To file a claim for unemployment in Pennsylvania, visit http://www.dli.state.pa.us/landi/cwp/view.asp?a=355&q=235210.
